It was a warm summer Saturday when Wes and his buddy, Oz, a smooth coat collie, got ready for a day at the park. Wes was looking forward to checking out the vintage made American classics, as well as spending time with his friends. Little did he know by the end of the day his world would be turned upside down. His friend was murdered.
Wes was a private investigator for the state workman’s comp insurance department. His job was to investigate and expose fraudulent cases. Over the years he used his keen observation skills, along with patience to catch those perpetrators. However, he had never investigated a murder before.
The more he uncovered, the more danger he was in as he dug deeper into who the true killer or killers were.
Wes and Oz, his four-legged buddy, were headed to one of Wes’s favorite car shows at the Old Penitentiary. When he turned the key and the “Bird” came to life, a cloud of black smoke spewed out of the exhaust. Unfortunately, Wes’s mechanic was away on another one of his vacations. But with luck, his friend Jeff recommended his mechanic, Muffin.
Days later Wes and Oz decided to check on the progress of the “Bird” but no one was around. He spotted in one of the garages bays an old Studebaker and went to check it out. Suddenly, Oz started barking and Wes knew something bad was about to happen. The hairs on the back of his neck stood on end. After looking into the truck he said to Oz. “Holy crap, what have we gotten ourselves into again?”
Summer was coming to an end and the leaves were starting to show off their fall colors. Today Wes Planned to relax with his eighty-pound tri-color buddy, Oz. They were attending what was the last big car show of the summer. It had always been a dream of Wes to add one of the handcrafted metal trophies to his collection. Then there would be two.
Little did Wes know that by the end of the day, he would again be called upon to investigate a murder. This time, however, it would be personal. He would have to prove the innocence of a member of his little classic car group. Wes had to work fast since the young D.A. who was out to make a name for himself, before his buddy was convicted of a crime he didn’t commit.
It had been a long and harsh winter. Wes had been so looking forward to spring and the much warmer weather. Not only with the rebirth of the trees and flowers but was Wes’s promise to Marti, the love of his life, to not stray from his Workman’s Comp Fraud investigations as he had in the past. As far as Wes was, concerned it was a new year and a new leaf and there were plenty of fraud cases on the top shelf of his desk to keep him busy.
To complicate both Wes and Marti’s lives, Christopher Andrew Legget showed up one day and insisted he had the skills, the knowledge, and where with all to become Wes’ newest investigating collaborator, not that Wes wanted or needed one. From the beginning, Christopher Andrew Legget did nothing but hampered as well as become a nuisance during Wes’ investigations.
Brisk winds moved through the valley loosening the red, yellow, and orange leaves from the trees. No sooner had he stepped outside chills raced throughout his body. With only two classic car events left before the season ends, tonight’s gala was the highlight of the year.
Wesley Johns, a private fraud investigator resided in the capital city of Idaho with his loving wife, Marti, and their two four-legged children, Oz and Annie. With Old Man winter around the corner, he hurried to close as many cases as he could before the potential suspects locked themselves in the warm confines of their homes making it almost impossible to gather any evidence on them.
